
Dr. George Carpten, IV currently serves as Assistant Professor of Trumpet and Brass Area Coordinator at Northern Kentucky University where he teaches Applied Trumpet, Music Appreciation, and directs the NKU Brass Choir. Previously, he served on the faculties at Penn State University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Trumpet and Jazz Studies.
A native of Memphis, Tennessee, he received his Bachelor’s of Music from The University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He earned his Master's of Music from The Pennsylvania State University and his Doctor of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) in 2016.
As a committed educator, Dr. Carpten regularly presents masterclasses and solo recitals throughout North America. Recent masterclasses and recitals include the following: Kansas State University, University of Kentucky, Arkansas State University, University of Maine, Pennsylvania State University, Valdosta State University, University of Louisville among others. Dr. Carpten also serves a guest faculty artist at the annual University of Kentucky Summer Trumpet Institute.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Carpten maintains an active performing schedule and has played with many professional ensembles in both the orchestral and jazz/commercial settings that include: The Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestra, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, Original Farm League Jazz Band, Seven Hills Brass Ensemble, West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Knoxville Jazz Orchestra, The Temptations, The Four Tops, and the American Wind Symphony.
